On this day in 2001, China crazy OG is the US winner

The US opened the year hosting China and Brian McBride starts the year off right.

27’
Jeff Agoos plays the direct ball into a blonde Landon Donovan, who’s flick fell perfectly for the McBride finish.

47’
After the break, one of the crazier own goals scored for the US Men's National Team.

Agoos plays the ball long, McBride nods it on for Donovan but Wang Liang gets there first.

Just an unfortunate first touch as it is skied toward his own net and that left Weilang scrambling. (2/2)

This match was DaMarcus Beasley’s first cap with the #USMNT.

Beasley would make 126 caps, which is seventh-most in our national team’s history. He also netted 17 goals.

Only US man to play in four World Cups. Almost five. What a player for us!

On this day in 2002, McBride scores a hat-trick

📋 Gold Cup QF

The Yanks cruised into the semifinal thanks to my Brian McBride's first and only international senior hat-trick.

9’
Frankie Hejduk’s cross deflects off Guillermo Garcia for McBride’s header.

11’
Chris Armas plays the ball over the top and Cobi Jones beats the offside trap with his run.

After collecting and rounding the keeper, the ball gets away from the midfielder and McBride pounces and fires home to double the lead.

21’
The hat-trick was completed after this beautiful move.

Landon Donovan wins the ball out to McBride. McBride gives it back to Donovan, who plays wide to Ante Razov.

The ball goes into Eddie Lewis, who beats the keeper and finds Donovan. Donovan lays it off to McBride for his third.

72’
Beasley finally getting a chance to stretch his legs after coming on at the break with this run down the left.

Beasley’s darting run from close to midfield sets up the chance for Razov to cap the scoring midway through the second half.

Bring on Canada.

The GGG era started with a convincing scoreline over Panama in Arizona.

40’
With Gyasi Zardes pushing the ball out wide, Corey Baird found Djordje Mihailovic by himself for the opener.

80’
With the game basically still in the balance, Nick Lima does well to slide and win the ball up the pitch.

After two touches to set himself, Lima curls in the cross only Walker Zimmerman was reaching.

The Americans double the lead.

89’
After some craft on the left flank by Jonathan Lewis, Christian Ramirez was on the doorstep for a tap-in.
