Hello.
In my last journal, I mentioned how I wanted to discuss the rosters and events leading to the Olympic Qualifying and friendlies, which was supposed to start Friday of this week. Well, none of that is occurring anymore thanks to the global pandemic COVID-19 or the Coronavirus. Over the last week, everything (and I mean everything) has either been postponed, canceled or suspended. They all mean the same thing — no sports. No March Madness. No more Premier League. No friendlies and no Olympic Qualifying. I am actually writing this during lunch while I work at home for the second day in a row. Should be practicing 'social distancing' for the next two and a half weeks at least.
It is really tough to want to make new content based on performances made during these matches and have them be canceled. I was looking forward to these matches for over a month and now there is nothing to cover. I understand this is a selfish thought because the virus is spreading, but... I understand canceling events was the right move because this outbreak is real, but for the guy sitting in the midwest having to work from home and no live soccer to watch, it has been rough.
Now, the thing is that I am breaking down the history of the USMNT so there is still plenty to cut and write about, and that is true. I can get ahead of my spreadsheet (300 matches logged so far) and make sure On This Day... is up to date. Finding out about
footballia.net has allowed me to watch full match replays so I will be able to cut so much more. This really excites me but I am not sure how to express these cuts. I think I am going to do some Passing Profiles of my favorite midfielders and a bunch of GIFs of them spraying passes. I am also starting to get a lot of GIFs of goals so for each player profile, I may make sure they have a goal log as well.
These are all just thoughts I am having of how to keep myself occupied during this time. A global pandemic closing down most of the world has never happened on this scale where leagues across the planet are being stopped and everyone is just waiting to see what we are supposed to do next. This is an odd time. Hopefully, we all get back to some normalcy soon.
