On this day in 2009, Dos a Cero lives on:
The final round of the 2010 World Cup qualifying started with a match against Mexico in Columbus. A sold-out crowd of 23,776 came to watch the rivalry between the two neighboring nations.
Tim Howard was called into action a couple of times in the opening few minutes before the Americans finally settled into the match. Both teams had chances in the first half, but nothing clear-cut. That was until a couple of minutes before the halftime break.
43'
DaMarcus Beasley curled in a corner. Landon Donovan headed it back into the mix for Oguchi Onyewu. Oswaldo Sanchez saved the initial shot, but Michael Bradley pounced for the opener.
64’
Midway through the second half, Rafael Marquez was shown red of this aerial collision with Tim Howard.
90’+2
Donovan drove into space before playing simply into Bradley and he does it again. This time, it was from distance and all three points were sealed.
Dos a Cero lives on!
This would be the perfect start to this qualifying campaign.
