Born in Fresno, CA, McCarty played in the #MLS from 1998-2003 with the Mutiny and the Crew.

He captained the US at the 2000 Olympics.

His only cap came on Sept 8, 1999 in a 2-2 draw with Jamaica. He came on in the 68th, replacing Eddie Pope.
