Born on May 13, 1982, in Washington, DC, the defender started his pro career with Metz in 🇫🇷, before playing in 🇧🇪, 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿, 🇮🇹, 🇳🇱, 🇵🇹 and 🇪🇸. He finished his career with Philadelphia Union.

Onyewu made 69 caps for the USMNT and he scored six goals. His first was the winner in the 90+2' in the Gold Cup SF against 🇭🇳 on July 21, 2005.
